A join-in tour is a public or group-based tour where you join other travellers on the same itinerary. It is a practical option for anyone looking for a Mount Bromo public tour, Shared Bromo tour, or affordable Bromo group tour without booking a fully private trip.
Mount Bromo is located within the massive Tengger Caldera in Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park in East Java. The nearest major city serving international flights will be Surabaya, which is about 3-4 hrs drive away. There are 5 volcanoes within the Caldera; Mount Bromo (2,329 m), Mount Batok (2,470 m), Mount Kursi (2,581 m), Mount Watangan (2,661 m), and Mount Widodaren (2,650 m).
In terms of weather, the best time to visit Mount Bromo is during the dry season from April to November. However, you can book a shared Bromo tour year-round! Incidence of rain is higher during the wet season from December to March, however the national park is still open to visitors during this period. The climate is generally tropical. Hence, it really depends because it may even rain in the dry season or it may be sunny in the wet season when you are there during your trip. You will always be allowed to travel there, even during public holidays/festivals.
In the early morning or before sunrise, temperature in Mount Bromo can be as low as 10-15°C. Temperature in the late morning and noon time will be around 20-30°C.
It is essential to bring a warm jacket that is suitable for cold temperature of about 10°C. Most of our customers from Europe or countries that experience colder climates (eg. Canada), have mentioned that the weather is generally acceptable. The locals also provide rental service for about 3-5 USD or 20,000 IDR per jacket.
Winter wear is essential at Mount Bromo in the early morning. You should layer appropriately, preferably in three layers – a quick dry base layer, a thick fleece or wool jacket and wind breaker with accessories like beanie, scarf and gloves which you can easily remove when the sun rises and gets significantly warmer.
The trek has a sandy terrain with relatively flat grounds and occasional inclines, except for the flight of stairs from the base of Mount Bromo to the top. It is a moderate trek which is suitable for beginners and those between 5 – 70 years old. For customers planning to visit Mount Ijen (part of our Bromo Ijen shared package), it will be a tougher hike of 2-3 hours with steep inclines. It is more suitable for customers between 12 – 65 years old.
