Everything You Need to Know Before Booking Your 4-Day Bromo Ijen Private Tour
What is the difference between the 3-day and 4-day Bromo Ijen tour?
The 3-day tour covers Mount Bromo and Ijen Crater — the two core volcanoes. The 4-day tour adds a complete extra day of your choice: Madakaripura Waterfall, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, Malang & Surabaya City, Taman Safari (family), or Tabuhan Island snorkelling. If your group has a specific 4th interest beyond the volcanoes, the 4-day format is the right choice.
Is the 4-day Bromo tour suitable for families with young children?
Yes, with the right package. Our Taman Safari variant is specifically designed for families — Bromo sunrise (easy walk, suitable ages 5+) and a full Day 4 at Taman Safari Malang where children can experience Java’s wildlife at close range. The Ijen hike (Day 3) is more demanding — 2–3 hours uphill — and is suitable for children aged 12+. For families with younger children, we recommend skipping Ijen and doing a Bromo-only 2-day package instead.
What is the Tabuhan Island snorkelling package and who is it for?
After the Ijen blue fire hike on Day 3, your driver takes you to Banyuwangi’s coast where a boat departs for Tabuhan Island — a protected marine area in the Bali Strait with excellent snorkelling over undamaged coral reefs. The combination of volcanic crater in the morning and coral ocean in the afternoon is one of the most unique East Java experiences we offer. Suitable for anyone comfortable swimming. Equipment provided.
Madakaripura or Tumpak Sewu — which waterfall should I choose for Day 4?
Madakaripura is easier to reach from Banyuwangi (the Ijen base) and requires a shorter gorge walk — ideal if your group prefers moderate activity. Tumpak Sewu is more dramatic visually (the 120-metre horseshoe waterfall is larger and more spectacular) but requires a 45-minute steep descent and climb. If you have the fitness, Tumpak Sewu is the more memorable experience. If you prefer a comfortable morning before flying home, Madakaripura is better timed.
How difficult is the trek at Mount Bromo/Ijen?
The trek has a sandy terrain with relatively flat grounds and occasional inclines, except for the flight of stairs from the base of Mount Bromo to the top. It is a moderate trek which is suitable for beginners and those between 5 – 70 years old. For customers planning to visit Mount Ijen, it will be a tougher hike of 2-3 hours with steep inclines. It is more suitable for customers between 12 – 65 years old.
Can I camp at Mount Bromo?
