Mount Bromo

Mount Bromo (Indonesian: Gunung Bromo), is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. At 2,329 metres (7,641 ft) it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god. (Wikipedia)

Madakaripura Waterfalls

Located not too far from Mount Bromo near the village of Sapih, Madakaripura Waterfall is believed to be the final meditation place of military Commander-in-Chief, Gajah Mada, of the great Javanese kingdom of Majapahit in East Java. The magnificent natural sight is fondly known as the the eternal waterfall, since its waters never cease to pour down an overflowing rain of blessings on those fortunate enough to walk underneath it. This tour was more than I expected! I was contacted a couple of days prior to the tour by the tour company, who passed on the details of both the tour manager and the guide that would meet me at Surabaya airport (I did not stay in Surabaya). They were all incredibly helpful, informative and more than happy to alter the schedule to meet me for my flight that kept being changed. And they were all so lovely, and hilarious – so it was like travelling and seeing amazing stuff with your friends, yet being told all the stuff you wanted to know about the area and the history. The guide CiCi and the driver were very accommodating as to when I wanted to eat, or sleep, or finish the tour to get back to the airport to fly out again. As for the adventure itself, the Jeep ride was great fun and it was like driving on another planet. The locations were just mind blowing and like nothing I’d ever seen, and the visit at the end to meet Tour Manager Daniel at the homestay with the home cooked meal, in the most picturesque village, was such a wonderful touch to finish with. I now plan to travel back again and see the guys to follow up with with another sunrise and a trip to Ijen crater. One of the greatest adventures I’ve been on! Super fun, and really professional. Well done!

What an experience. Short and punchy tour that hits the highlights of Bromo area. Hotels and guides were excellent. All in all highly recommended. Special thanks to Rama and Pak who drove (sorry can’t recall name!)

Alex contacted me after I booked the tour and was in constant contact with me, responding to my queries promptly and succinctly. I was apprehensive about being able to go up the mountain but my guide, Danny was very patient and encouraged me every step of the way. He didn’t rush me but was there to lend a helping hand whenever I felt I couldn’t go because of the shifting sand on the way up. It was well worth the effort and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
The visit to the Madakaripura Waterfalls is not to be missed. It’s a breathtaking sight and the cool waters under the waterfall was totally welcomed as it washed away the grime and the sand accumulated by the trip up Mount Bromo. My guide, Nurisari, was fantastic and even volunteered to help me carry my backpack. I highly recommend this tour.
